Dear 2009

Happy Belated Birthday! I am sorry I missed you yesterday but your boy was off and enjoying his free time. First things first, I need to let you know that although I am excited about your being here, I am also a little anxious about what you have in store for me. If you remember last year’s post, I have had some issues with odd numbered years. However, this is the perfect opportunity to break the cycle and start a new tradition.

I am not one to talk about a person’s family so I will not mention that your brother (2008) and I did not accomplish many of the things we set out to do last January. Last year’s goals included getting into shape, buying a house, being more social, and finding that special someone. 1) I am still fat. 2) I am still renting. 3) I did make strides on this one but not to the degree, I would like. 4) Yes! I found love on a two-way street!

So just like those minutes on your cell phone, we are going to roll over some of those goals into this year. In addition to those things, I want to make this year about personal growth (mentally, physically, and spiritually). I am going to take some classes to better myself in several areas of life. Already renewed my gym membership so I can work on getting into shape. My coworkers are trying to convince me to do Weight Watchers with them. I am not sure if I have the discipline to count points/calories like that but if I keep doing the same thing, I will keep getting the same results. Also, I will be making an appearance at church at least once a month even if I have to knock on the door to gain access. On top of all that though, I need to get beyond the insecurities and self-doubt that I have been carrying around forever. It is a damn shame when other people see you in a much better light than you see yourself. I can’t really say I know how to accomplish this last goal but I’m so tired of living in this fog.

So 2009, we have our work cut out for us in the next twelve months. Did you bring your hard hat?

Yours truly,
Krush

I like this! A nice spin on writing New Years Resolutions.

BUT I think sometimes people focus too much on what they want to do in a 12 month span. I think it's just better to set up your goals and work on them little by little. Sometimes, it takes longer than a year. (Esp. personal growth. Can't really put a timetable on that one.) So don't be so hard on yourself. You'll get there exactly when you're supposed to!!

Happy New Year Skoolboi!

I to am so gald to see 2008 past on and now I can focus on getting things right in 2009.

I wrote out my seven goals. . .as I call them. . .for the year.

And there was one bonus and that is not to be too hard on myself if I don't acheive them as soon as I hope but I must put in effort and try.

I so feel you on the insecurities and self doubt . . .make me want to scream.

Good luck to you on the things you hope to acheive.
And I am sure 2009 will be a good year for you.

Robin - I totally agree with you. That is why I have no problem rolling them over into the next year. Happy New Year! Keep writing!

T - Happy New Year and Happy Belated Birthday! I'll have to come by the shop and see you soon.

Sharon - Thanks! I know that you will make great strides towards your goals this year. Keep the faith!

I like the way you wrote this like it was a letter to your son. (I like this part "I am not one to talk about a person's family..." Hahhaaa. I also like that you and 2009 are going to work together toward your goals, as opposed to working hard all by yourself. All of these goals are doable. I have to say I'm impressed that you set the goal of finding your special someone in 2008 and it happened! Anyway, I look forward to reading your blogs in the future ;)
