Notes to a Young Krush #1

I got a great idea for a blog from a friendly conversation on BBM the other day. A friend of mine talked about hearing the idea of doing a blog for a loved one filled with words of wisdom that they could read at some point in their life when the time was right. I told her that I was going to use that idea for my blog. Instead of writing for a young relative, I am writing this blog to myself. Advice and life lessons that I wish someone had told me when I was younger. In the first installment of this series, I am going to write about loving yourself for whom you are and who you aren’t.

I know you’ve heard people say that life is short. I disagree. Life is very long and it’s too long to go through it being anything less than you. As a young person, you can easily get caught up in the desire to fit in or live up to the expectations of other people. However, I would suggest to you that you need to find some quiet time for self-reflection and learn to love yourself. There are only a few people you can truly count on to have your back as you go through this life. Building strong relationships is one of the most important things you can accomplish in life. Family and friends will help to make life more enjoyable. When the ups and downs of life truly impact you, it will be you alone who will have to deal with it. No you won’t be perfect. Everybody has flaws and weaknesses. Acknowledge them and try to improve in those areas but don’t focus too much energy on the negative. Like everyone, you are unique and special in your own way. Strive to improve everyday and dream big

Things I Believe - The 2010 Edition

1. The reason that side pieces do not know their role anymore is that reality television, YouTube and Twitter has made everyone believe that they are supposed to be stars.  Know your role people!
2. "You ain't a pimp.  You're just a rest haven for hoes!" - Pretty Tony
3. Everybody (including myself) waiting for Hip Hop to return to the the level of the golden era should give it up.  A genre that was built on being anti-establishment is not THE establishment.  
4. Satellite and internet radio is much better than over the airwaves radio. Some of my favorites include The Foxxhole on XM, DTF Radio, and  Beehive FM.  There is better variety of music and uncensored conversation.  Check it out.
5. Forget Jay-Z, Sade is the one who made the pact with the devil.  How else do you explain her going away for over a decade and coming back looking exactly the same?
6. Packaging and presentation is everything.  You can make anything work if you present it in the right way and it looks like something everybody would want.
7. What you do in the dark will always come to the light!
8. No matter how many Super Bowls Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Brett Favre win, they will never be better than Joe Montana.
9. People will always find fault with the things you do so live for you and make yourself happy.
10. With all these natural  and man-made disasters that are happening lately, it's even more evident that it is time to get right with God now.
    

I Believe – The Remix

This is a rewrite of an old post that I did to start this blog. I wanted to update the list and to give some of the new readers a little bit more information about me. Just a little insight on the way I think. Let me reintroduce myself:

I believe that a pretty smile and a good attitude are the biggest elements to making a woman sexy.

I believe that the 90 Day Rule works but it doesn’t take that long to decide if you want to be with somebody.

I believe that despite all the hype that the Lakers and Celtics are getting, it will be the Pistons and Spurs in the NBA Finals.

I believe that the older you get the more you realize how much you don’t know about life.

I believe that the last episode of The Wire was excellent and showed the game continues regardless of whether justice gets served or not.

I believe that nobody will ever be as hot as Michael Jackson was in his prime.

I believe that Don Cheadle is the best actor in Hollywood.

I believe that Kobe Byrant is the best basketball player in the NBA.

I believe that current radio is more detrimental to the youth than drugs, poverty or lack of heath care

I believe that the plays of August Wilson should be mandatory reading in all public schools.

I believe that somewhere along the way mothers stopped teaching their daughters the proper undergarments to wear with each outfit and how to walk in heels.

I believe that Erykah Badu’s New Amerykah, while not her best effort, is better than anything being pumped on the radio right now.

I believe that Barack Obama is being set up for a big fall...Watch out Brother!

Things I Believe - Part 2

As we get closer to the year end, I thought it was a good time to revisit the Things I Believe.

1. I believe that I seriously need to hit the gym and get into shape but all that Thanksgiving food is not going to go to waste around me.

2. I believe that even though the Patriots are a monster of a team, they are flirting with some bad karma by running up the score on people.

3. I believe that the death of his mother is going to really change the music that Kanye puts out. Can't wait to hear what his next project will sound like!

4. Speaking of classic hip hop, I believe that Jay Z made a great comeback after the disappointing Kingdom Come with a very good American Gangster CD. Party Life is my shit!

5. I believe that since people have brought back fat rope chains and Gucci links that somebody needs to come with the dollar bill sized herringbone.

6. I believe that on the low Talib Kweli is killing it in 2007. Have you heard that remix for Hot Thing? Pure fiyah!

7. I believe that there is a clear divide between middle class and lower class black people. We have very different priorities now. How did this happen?

8. I believe that if Stephon Marbury really had dirt on Isaiah Thomas like he threatened, them fools must be running hoes in and out of the locker room in New York.

9. I believe that a night at home watching a good game is better than any night at the club.

10. I believe that it is mad suspicious that all these famous black men are getting indicted by the Feds lately. In this time of snitching, brothers better be real careful.
